In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth and, manifestly, the Cambridge Sailing Green team. For what could have caused such beauty and perfection but an act of the Lord himself? And lo, did those six sailors grace the Loughborough Lemming 2024 with their expertise and, of course, their charm.
The weekend was billed by the organisers as “where history begins” but were they instead about to experience the opposite? Would the performance of Cambridge definitively show who was best, forever? Could we in fact declare that a team had finally ‘won sailing’? That is a question consigned to the history books. But on the subject of records, perhaps some results should be shared…
A beautiful, a fantastic, a simply yummy 70% win rate earned the Cambridge Green team a fifth place in the Loughborough Lemming 2024 competition including over 150 sailors. This was unfortunately just two points off of the finals leaving the team with an early pack up and a swift return home. Once again we might wonder of the inherent tactical prowess on display.
And then there was the cherry on top – a Cambridge vs Oxford match up that made fight night look like a quiet night in. Naturally our fiercest allies are our closest friends. And, much like the ending of “Barbie: The Princess and the Popstar”, we learned that friendship always wins. As, of course, did Cambridge.
We leave these fine young athletes on the cliff edge of the future. What will winter entail? How will our young heroes perform next term? Well that’s a story for another time…
