Cambridge at 2024 BUCS Fleet Racing

Despite the windless conditions, Tim and Kate from Cambridge managed a solid start to the year at the 2024 BUCS fleet racing championships.

On the 9-10th November, Tim and Kate trekked down to Torquay to represent Cambridge at the 2024 BUCS Fleet Racing Championships, in RS Aeros.  The forecast was not looking great for the Saturday, and so Kate ventured up to join the fun in a 7 sail. Some floating around happened initially but then the wind filled in and we completed 3 races. After a quick drive back to Exeter, and an even quicker change, it was time for some socialising. Exeter hosted us for a great dinner and some squished but amusing line dancing.

The Sunday began with just as much hope wind-wise as the day before. However, we remained on land for as long as possible, to wait for things to pick up – and save our legs from crouching! We eventually launched into some medium winds and managed 3 more full races.

Train cancellations meant that we missed the official prize-giving, as we hoofed it to the station to have a chance of getting home. But nonetheless, Tim came 2nd and won some lovely BUCS points, whilst Kate managed a 5th.

Big thank yous go to Exeter for hosting a well run event and to Tim’s parents for delivering the boats. It was a great weekend and lots of fun was had.
